Un bouton d’or

Le bouton d’or. The “golden button”. What a pretty name for a flower! In English, this flower is called buttercup. But why is it called bouton d’or in French? Well, bouton (button) is a reference to its rounded shape. And d’or (golden) comes from the petals smooth yellow surface that causes a mirror-like reflection!
