Ce n’est pas de la tarte

Ce n’est pas de la tarte”, literally translated by “ This is not tart”, is a colloquial expression used to refer to something tricky or difficult to handle. So where does the idiom come from? As you might know, “une tarte” is not difficult to bake, so if you say that something “n’est pas de la tarte”, it is difficult to do.
