Être dans la lune

Être dans la lune, literally “to be in the moon”, means to daydream, to pay zero attention. The expression dates back to the 18th century. The writer Mirabeau used it for the first time in L’Empire de la Lune. Since then, the moon has been strongly linked with dream and absent-mindedness.
