Chanter comme une casserole

Chanter comme une casserole, literally “to sing like a saucepan”, means to sing flat. Well, imagine the cacophony of pots banging together or pans crashing onto the floor! It would be unbearable! The same about someone who really can’t sing! The expression dates back to the 14th century but its origin is unclear.
