Avoir la chair de poule

Avoir la chair de poule, literally “to have chicken flesh”, means “to have goose bumps”. In the 17th century, avoir la chair de poule was only used by doctors. Nowadays, it is a common and evocative expression. In fact, when a person is cold or experiences strong emotions, such as fear, the body’s hair raise and the skin looks like poultry with the feathers removed.
