Faire l’autruche

Faire l’autruche, literally “to do the ostrich”, means “to bury one’s head in the sand” . It is used when someone prefer to avoid reality. The idiom appeared in the 17th century with the study of the African fauna. According to the legend, explorers would have seen ostriches bury their head in the sand to hide from danger.
